We live today’s life at a fast pace. Sometimes, it’s nice to press pause and enjoy some of yesterday’s slower-paced activities. Think of a board game, snowshoeing or a good old family outing on a horse-drawn carriage or sleigh. When is the last time you slowly looked around and enjoyed the winter wonderland?

A multi-generation farm and tradition

Dustin Sherrer, a 42-year-old multi-generation Suttonite, is working hard at reviving the fourth-generation family farm and tradition on Perkins. Him and his sister have grown up working with horses. They showed them in Brome and other fairs across the country. Dustin’s sister even won lady driving at the Toronto World Percheron Congress in 2006. After less than a decade away from the family farm, Dustin Sherrer has adopted five Percheron and Clydesdale horses. Then, he started riding and offering rides again. He can welcome you on the farm or bring the horses to you.

This winter, you might have seen him at the Midnight event in Knowlton. At the farm, on weekends and evenings, Dustin or his girlfriend Katie McWilliams offer you a wagon or sleigh ride on Perkins and through the fields and forests across the street with a nice view on Mont Pinnacle and the Green Mountains, mostly on Dustin’s land. The wagon can accomodate up to 18 people and 12 on the sleigh when there is enough snow on the ground.

A warm and sweet experience

I would advise you to put on rain boots on muddy days and dress warmly on cold ones, but Dustin is willing to bring out warm wool blankets anytime. You can even bring your dog along. At the end of the ride, you can enjoy a hot chocolate, a coffee and a delicious homemade donut made by Dustin’s mother. You can also buy some maple syrup from the family’s sugar shack.
